Crime… and its Aftermath

GETTING TICKETS: Lesson 2

More on Getting a Ticket

  • The officer will explain why you were stopped. Be respectful when you ask questions.
  • The officer has the power to decide just to give you a warning if appropriate. The warning can be a written warning. Pay attention! You’ve been warned! Next time, you will get a ticket.
  • If you get a citation (ticket), read it carefully. It will tell you:
    • The law you appear to have broken
    • The date you must appear in court to challenge the ticket if you want to argue about it, and where the court is
    • The amount of the fine, the deadline to pay it, and how you can pay: online, by mail and in person
