Crime… and its Aftermath

THE DIFFERENCE BETWEEN FELONY & MISDEMEANOR CRIMES: Lesson 4

“I Didn’t Know” Doesn’t Save You

  • It doesn’t matter if you did something to get arrested but didn’t know it was illegal. You’ve heard it: “Ignorance of the law is not an excuse.”
  • Even if you didn’t know it was illegal, you can still be found guilty of crime.
  • Adults (people 18 and older) have the responsibility of knowing the law!
  • Think of it this way:
    • If it will harm someone or damage someone’s property, it is AT LEAST wrong – and is probably a crime.
    • Don’t do things that harm others or their property, and stay away from controlled substances! Follow posted rules! Follow the rules you learned as a kid!
