Crime… and its Aftermath

GUNS AND WEAPONS: YOUR LEGAL RIGHTS: Lesson 2

Guns, In General

  • The Tennessee constitution protects the right to bear arms, but the state constitution does not give people the right to carry guns when and where they want to.
  • In Tennessee, you can openly carry a gun if you have a state-issued permit to do that.
  • You can carry a concealed (hidden) weapon on or near your body or car if you have a concealed weapon permit AND you are on your property, or in your home, or at your own business.
  • It is illegal to fire a “warning shot” in Tennessee.
