Driving Laws Every Young Driver Must Know

Why Most Young Adults are Bad Drivers: Lesson 2

Young Drivers Have Such a Bad Reputation, But That’s Not Me!

  • Young adult drivers are more likely to speed, and to tailgate – especially if there are young adult men in the car.
  • The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration found that 35% of the men age 15 – 20 who died in a crash in 2012 were speeding, and 25% of the ones who died had been drinking.
    • It is illegal for anyone under age 21 to drink alcohol, and it is illegal for anyone to speed! Death is a harsh penalty.
  • The Centers for Disease Control found that only 55% of high school students obey the seatbelt law and wear seatbelts …
  • … and 71% of people 15 – 20 who died after drinking and driving in 2012 were not wearing seat belts. Unbelievable.
    • At the very least, your seat belt will keep you in the car when it rolls. It keeps you from slamming forward. Buckle up and survive. Simple as that.
  • More than half of teens who died in 2013 were in accidents between 3 p.m. and midnight. And 54% happened on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday.
