RELATIONSHIPS GONE WRONG: Lesson 2

If Domestic Abuse Happens to You

  • If you are injured by someone, call 911.
  • When police arrive, tell them what happened.
  • You can get an order of protection if you need one.
    • Go to the Domestic Violence Program at the courthouse and let them know you need this.
    • They will help you with the process.
    • You don’t need a lawyer, but you can use one if you want to and can afford it.
    • With an order of protection in force, you can have your abuser arrested RIGHT NOW if they bother you during the time the order covers.
  • There are domestic violence hotlines everywhere you can call for help. The National Domestic Violence Hotline is 1-800-799-7233. Their website has a live chat feature, also.
    • WomensLaw.org and lovisrespect.org are two other great resources.
