RELATIONSHIPS GONE WRONG: Lesson 3

Gathering Evidence That Abuse Has Happened

  • If you are suffering an abusive relationship, gathering evidence of the problem might help police stop your abuser:
  • Go to the doctor for treatment for injuries and speak honesty with the doctor. The doctor will make a record of your treatment.
  • If you are being stalked, create a stalking log. Keep this in a safe place or at a friend’s house.
  • If a trusted friend or relative knows what is going on, ask them to keep track of what they witness happening.
  • Take dated photos of injuries, damaged property, the messed-up house, and keep them in a safe place – or let a trusted friend or relative keep them for you.
  • Let calls go to voicemail and keep recordings. Keep emails, texts, and so forth.
